Watch my movie on my smart TV
If you have a smart TV, such as a Samsung TV, it may not be possible to connect to or play content from the TV’s built-in Internet browser. In other words, it might work, but these browsers are not among our currently supported browsers. If you’d like to give it a try, here are the steps to follow on a smart TV browser:
STEP 1
On your TV, open your Internet browser and visit Vimeo.com.
Enter your e-mail address, submit, and you’ll receive a link by e-mail.
STEP 2
On another device (i.e. another computer or mobile device), open your inbox, open the connection e-mail and click on the CONNECT link.
STEP 3
Return to your TV browser and you should be logged in to watch.
If these steps don’t work, your smart TV is probably not compatible.
In this case, you can try connecting your computer or mobile device to your TV using an HDMI cord, or streaming via Chromecast or Airplay with Apple devices.
Please note: At the moment, we do not support Chromecast devices integrated into certain TV sets. While this may work, our player is not developed to support this and we cannot resolve any issues that may arise.
Watch a private Vimeo video on a smart TV or via Apple TV
Videos that are “private” and require a password cannot be searched via the Vimeo application on a Smart TV or Apple TV. To access Vimeo private videos, you’ll need to add them to your Watcher plu tard/WaterLater list on Vimeo.
Here’s how:
STEP 1
Create a basic account (free) at https://vimeo.com/upgrade. The link to a basic account is listed just below the header.
STEP 2
On your computer or laptop, log in to your Vimeo account.
In your e-mail program, open the e-mail containing the vimeo link to your private video.
Open the video, enter the password.
In the top right-hand corner of the video, click on the Clock icon to add it to the watch later list.
Repeat this operation for each video, adding each one to your list of videos to watch later.
You only need to perform this step once per video.
STEP 3
On your Smart TV, Apple TV or other streaming device, load your Vimeo application.
Log in to your free account.
Access your private videos from the To Watch Later list.
You will still need to enter the password for each video, provided they are set to Private rather than Public.
Now your private videos will play on your smart TV!
Access a free or promotional film
- Follow our Facebook page so you don’t miss out on promotional film announcements
- Take note of the promotional code given in the Facebook post
- Once on the Maison 4:3 online storefind the film you’re interested in (Browse our movie selection or enter the desired film in the search bar at the top right of the window)
- Click on Buy product
- Click on Buy or Rent
- Select the Rent option on the left
- Enter your email address and a password
- Select Promo code and enter your promotional code
- Click on Redeem Now
There you go! The code will be functional for 24 hours. Enjoy the movie!
PUBLIC SCREENING AND DIGITAL SHARING
Why do you have to pay a license fee to show a film?
The Canadian Copyright Act stipulates that all public screenings of films must obtain a Public Projection Right License.
Are there any exceptions where a license is not required? Oui, deux !
- Libraries acquiring a film solely for loan to users.
- Teachers in public schools who show the film in class for educational purposes (and not for entertainment) e.g. the film “Antigone” studied as part of the literature course
-> In these two cases only, the DVD can be purchased directly from our store, our Vimeo site or in bookshops, without having to purchase the license.
In all other cases, a license is required for a public screening.
A public screening is any film presentation that takes place outside a private home or for an audience other than family and friends. Les présentations prenant place dans des associations privées, des bibliothèques, des amphithéâtres, des clubs privés ou des entreprises privées sont également considérées comme des présentations publiques.
